Abstract

Abstract Cross sections of multicapture processes for Xe27+ ions colliding with Xe at an energy of 4 keV/u are reported. Projectiles and recoil ions were detected in coincidence, allowing the determination of recoil ion charge states from time of flight measurements. For processes where the projectile stabilizes five electrons, we measured that the target exchanges up to 15 electrons. Cross sections are compared with the theoretical predictions based on the Extended Classical Barrier Model (E.C.B.M.) [10].
