Abstract

during bleeding episodes. Hemarthrosis in history was present in at least one knee of 40 patients (95.2%), in at least one elbow of 29 patients (69.0%), in at least one ankle of 14 patients (33.3%), in at least one wrist of six patients (14.3%), in at least one shoulder of Wve patients (11.9%) and in at least one hip of six patients (14.3%). The patients were evaluated with direct X-ray radiographs to display degenerative changes in joints which method similar to described in this article [2]. In parallel to bleeding histories, there are radiological degenerative changes in knee of 39 (92.9%), in elbow of 39 (92.9%), in ankle of 10 (23.8%), in wrist of 8 (19.0%), in shoulder of 3 (7.1%) and in hip of 3 (7.1%) patients. Radiological changes observed in knees of 50% of patients and in elbows of 33.3% of patients were advanced. Loss of range of movement was determined according to “neutral zero method” as percentage (=loss of range of movement/maximal movement ability of joint) and the ones having more than 50% loss of range of movement were described as advanced. In parallel to hemarthrosis distribution described by the cases, there were loss of range of movement in knees of 28 (66.7%), in elbows of 21 (50.0%), in ankles of 12 (28.6%), in wrists of 3 (7.14%), in shoulder of 1 (2.4%) and in hips of 2 (4.8%) patients. Loss of range of movement observed in knees of 21.4% of patients and in elbows of 9.5% of patients were advanced. Terms deWnite and probable hemophilic arthropathy were used in order to evaluate history, physical examination and radiological changes together [3]. According to these deWnitions, there were (deWnite + probable) hemophilic arthropathy in knees of 82.1% (75.0 + 7.1%), in elbows of 59.5% (54.8 + 4.7%), in ankles of 30.9% (17.8 + 13.1%), in wrists of 5.9% (all of them deWnite), in shoulders of 3.6% (all of them deWnite) and in hips of 4.8% (all of them deWnite) of
