Abstract

Embolization is an important treatment for cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Measurement of regional cerebral blood flow around an AVM is essential for the evaluation of the embolization effect. A 12-year-old girl with an AVM was examined sequentially with angiography and PET using a O-15-labeled gas inhalation technique before and after embolization. PET depicted the increase in regional cerebral blood flow in the ipsilateral hemisphere of the AVM and the decrease of cerebral blood flow in the AVM region after embolization. PET can depict hemodynamic changes after embolization and possibly estimate the effect of embolization in patients with AVM.
