Abstract

The indirect antiglobulin test (Coombs test) for the detection of nonagglutinating (“incomplete”) Rh antibodies can be inhibited by treatment with protein A of the antibody-coated human erythrocytes. Inhibition occurs by blocking or steric hindrance by protein A of the binding sites for antibodies of the Coombs sera at the Fc-region of the Rh antibodies.
