Abstract

SummaryThe goal of the present survey was to improve the scarce knowledge regard the endoparasites of raptors in Chile and South America. Thus, necropsy was performed on 14 chimango caracaraMilvago chimango temucoensisfrom Los Ríos Region, Chile. From all examined birds, 78.6% were positive to helminths. The species identified wereCapillaria tenuissima, Pterothominxsp.,Baruscapillaria falconis, Cosmocephalus obvelatus, Skrjabinoclavasp.,Synhimantus (Dispharynx) nasuta, Synhimantus(D.) sp.,Synhimantus (Synhimantus)sp.,Paracuaria adunca, Procyrnea spinosa, Porrocaecum depressum, Contracaecum rudolphiisensu lato,Stephanoprorasp. andPolymorphus mutabilis. All species listed, with the exception ofC. tenuissima, P. spinosaandP. depressum, are new records for the chimango caracara. FurthermoreC. obvelatus, Skrjabinoclavasp.,S. (D.)nasuta, S. (D.) sp.,P. adunca, C. rudolphiis. l.,Stephanoprorasp. andP. mutabilisall are new records for Neotropical raptors.
