Abstract

Spin-resolved photoemission spectra of the 6 eV satellite of ferromagnetic Ni valence band have been measured with circularly polarized light at Ni 3 p core level excitation threshold. We have observed that the spin polarization of the 6 eV satellite was enhanced according to the Δ m =+1 excitation of the dipole selection rule for magnetic quantum numbers and suppressed to the Δ m =-1 excitation. The observed helicity dependence of the spin polarization was discussed based on an atomic model including the spin-orbit interaction.
