Abstract

The effect of heat treatment conditions on wear resistance of particulate-reinforced 6061 aluminum matrix composites has been investigated. A pin-on-disk type tribometer has been employed in the experiments. Specimens with various A12O3 volume fractions of 0, 10 and 20% were used in this work. The results indicated that longer aging time was detrimental to the wear resistance of A12O3/6061 A1 composite with volume fraction of particles, although it was favorable to that of monolithic 6061 A1.
