Abstract

A new heat-treated Ni/Cr multilayer composite coating for strip casting rolls was designed in this contribution. The results revealed that the addition of the middle layer of the Ni layer was conducive to enhancing the heat transfer capacity. Insignificant improvement was found in the crack resistance of the Ni/Cr coating when compared to the Cr coating. However, the heat-treated Ni/Cr coating exhibited remarkable cracking resistance due to intensified binding force with the matrix. Also, the wear resistance of Ni/Cr and heat-treated Ni/Cr was superior to that of Cr coating.
