Abstract

The deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) is the reservoir for Sin Nombre virus, the cause of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) in the USA. The 1997–98 El Nino southern oscillation (ENSO) was followed by increased rainfall and increases in Peromyscus spp population densities in the Four Corners region of the southwestern USA where the states of New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah share a common intersection. 1
