Abstract

The presented paper is aimed at methodological evaluation of the appreciation of monarchy raised by one of the most infuential contemporary adherensts of libertarianism and austrian school of economics – Hans-Hermann Hoppe. The author asserts that Hoppe’s positive appraisal of monarchy turns out to be untenable on methodological grounds. In the light of the author’s tenets, the main and fatal flaw of Hoppe’s theory is that German philosopher confuses two different categories of social theory – a priori laws of human action and so called ideal types. What is more, Hoppe’s arguments fall on terms of the very same methodological approach that Hoppe himself promotes, that is, the philosophy of social sciences elaborated by Max Weber and Ludwig von Mises.
