Abstract
The Hanle effect of a hyperfine transition (connecting two levels with a non-zero angular momentum) in a sodium atomic beam, induced by a CW single-mode dye laser, has been investigated for various radiation intensities. A qualitative explanation and a quantitative interpretation of the experimental results are given. The features characteristic of the narrow-band pumping radiation are emphasised.
