Abstract
The papers in this special section were presented at the 27th IEEE International Conference on Electronics Circuits and Systems (ICECS) in the area of biomedical applications of circuits and systems. Electronics is playing an increasingly important role in addressing the challenges by the convergence of engineering with medicine. Bio-medical themes, spanning from monitoring of physiological parameters and biosensing and neural interfaces to energy sources for wearable and point-of-care biomedical devices represent a significant fraction of the applications of electronic circuits and systems in new healthcare technologies, as witnessed by this Journal and by the dedicated sessions in CAS conferences. The five manuscripts presented in this special section provide a window through which the reader can see the breadth and depth of state-of-the-art advances at the interface of electronics and biology.
