Guest editor’s editorial: BDQ Special Issue — “Liquid Biopsy & Next Generation Biomarkers”: Published in conjunction with the 9th Gene Quantification Event in Freising Weihenstephan, Germany www.qPCR-dPCR-NGS-2019.net

Highlights

  • I had the honour to edit another special issue in our young scientific journal ‘Biomolecular Detection and Quantification’

  • Special focus was made on liquid biopsies, micro-genomics, single-cells applications, or new matrices like extracellular vesicles for the development of advanced generation biomarkers

  • The biomarker development should aim in reproducible and valid biomarker signatures, which are capable of revealing specific biological traits in the probands or should highlight molecular changes, according to a disease status or pathological conditions [1]

IntroductionExpand/Collapse icon

I had the honour to edit another special issue in our young scientific journal ‘Biomolecular Detection and Quantification’. It is entitled ‘Liquid Biopsy & Generation Biomarkers’, published in conjunction with 9th Gene Quantification Event (www.qPCR-dPCR-NGS-2019.net), and covering similar key topics. The methodological focus of the conference and the topics are all based on nucleic acids quantification methods and their applications in molecular research or clinical diagnostics.

Liquid biopsy in lung cancer: present and future.
  • Oct 1, 2016
  • Translational Lung Cancer Research
  • Miguel Ángel Molina-Vila

In lung cancer, as well as in other malignancies, the so-called “liquid biopsy” is quickly moving from research into clinical practice. Although it has not yet reached its full potential, the “liquid biopsy” is no longer a promise but a reality that is allowing a better monitoring and treatment selection of cancer patients in many hospitals and oncology departments. We can already envision a day when “liquid biopsy” tests will be as common and useful as imaging techniques and “standard” biopsies, offering invaluable prognostic and predictive information. The objective of this special issue of Translational Lung Cancer Research ( TLCR ) is to offer an overview of this exciting area, with a particular emphasis on the clinical utility of the so-called “liquid biopsy” and the diversity of applications, methodologies and information that can be derived from it.
