Abstract

Purpose: MR guided adaptive brachytherapy (MRGABT) has revolutionized cervical cancer brachytherapy with marked improvements in plan quality and consistent reporting of dose volume parameters. Utilization of the rich anatomic information contained in the 3D images, however, can certainly be improved from current practice in achieving optimal implants and subsequent plans, especially in the setting of bulky diseases that require patient-specific interstitial brachytherapy. We propose a novel workflow that utilizes a couple of emerging and certainly innovative technologies of direction modulated brachytherapy (DMBT) tandem applicator along with rapid 3D printing to fill the identified need.
