Abstract

In order to achieve its aim of energy security and sustainable development, the South African government has embraced renewable energy as part of its energy mix with wind energy playing a very crucial role in achieving this set objective. Despite the efforts to embrace renewable energy and wind energy in particular, the implementation of wind energy technologies has been slow due to certain challenges. This paper discusses some of these challenges mitigating against the grid integration of wind energy in South Africa and some solutions in addressing these issues.
