Abstract

With thin client computing, mobile users’ devices only visualize the output of remote resource-intensive applications. In order to guarantee a high perceived quality to the mobile thin client users, there is an important need for (i) an efficiently dimensioned mobile thin client grid and (ii) intelligent service management for wide area thin client services, including a server selection algorithm to assign a server that can provide the desired interactivity and quality to all users. In this article, algorithms specific for thin client grid dimensioning and server selection are presented, together with the main results of a performance study.
