Abstract Gravitational correlations and the monopole problem are investigated. Because of large mass, monopoles will cluster gravitationally long before time galaxies can form in the standard model. The annihilation of monopole-antimonopole pairs is thus allowed to catch up with the expansion of the universe. However the enhancement of the annihilation rate is barely sufficient to avoid having the universe strongly closed by their mass. Consequently, it is suggested that another mechanism is necessary to solve the monopole problem, the most likely being in the GeV energies.
