Abstract

The study of argument is currently receiving considerable attention from scholars representing a variety of perspectives. In order to assess the state of graduate education in argumentation theory, institutions which offer graduate courses in argumentation theory were surveyed. This essay reports data concerning the nature of institutions and the type of course, argumentation theorists discussed, historical concepts in argument, basic concepts in argument, everyday argument, miscellaneous topics, and resources employed in teaching these classes. Finally, ‐speculation is advanced concerning trends in graduate education in argumentation theory today.
