Abstract

In this special Roundtable section, case studies of basic public history sectors of government and business are examined by leading authorities from different perspectives. Dr. Maurice Matloff, longtime head of the U.S. Army's history program, discusses his department's activities from the viewpoint of a professional historian; James Laichas, an attorney, discusses his corporation's experience in public history from the viewpoint of the employer; and Dr. James Reed, a Ph.D. in American history, explains his own consulting firm's problems from the viewpoint of the entrepreneur. Finally, Dr. Lawrence de Graaf provides an overview interpretation from an academic perspective.
