Abstract

In order to personalize information for a nomadic user equipped with a Mobile Device (MD), an Information System (IS) must take into consideration data which deal with on the one hand, the context of use and on the other hand, user preferences. Data about the context of use provides in particular a description of the conditions (temporal, spatial, hardware, etc.) under which the user accesses to the IS. Data about preferences aim at expressing what the user would like to obtain from the system considering different aspects (the functionalities, the content, the display, etc.). In this paper, we propose an approach for the adaptation of IS which rests on the generation of a contextual user profile. Such a profile is made of the only preferences of a user which can be satisfied taking into account the current context of use. First, we present a formalisation for three different types of preferences. Then, we describe the process we propose for the generation of the contextual user profile. An example illustrating our proposition is given. We also give the main elements for the design and the implementation of a tool supporting our approach.
