Global Research Trends on Inflammation in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Insights From Bibliometric and Scientometric Analysis

BackgroundPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex reproductive-endocrine disorder with an ambiguous etiology, presenting significant challenges for clinical management. Recently, inflammation has been identified as a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of PCOS, attracting considerable attention within the scientific community. In this study, we used bibliometric and visualization analyses to investigate the research hotspots and developmental trends associated with inflammation in PCOS to obtain valuable insights for future research.MethodsThe core collection of the Web of Science database was accessed to retrieve literature on inflammation and PCOS published from 2004 to 2024. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were performed using software tools including CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and GraphPad Prism. The analysis focused on publication year, country, institution, journal, author, publication, and literature keywords.ResultsFrom January 1, 2004, to July 25, 2024, a total of 2568 articles were published on PCOS and inflammation, which involved 10,920 authors from 2902 research institutions across 92 countries. The volume of literature in this field had consistently increased, with significant contributions from the United States and China. Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the Egyptian Knowledge Base were identified as the most active and influential institutions. “Gynecological Endocrinology” was the leading journal in terms of the number of relevant articles published. Among the published authors, Asemi and Zatollah had the highest publication counts, while Azziz R.'s work received the most citations. Commonly occurring keywords included insulin resistance, obesity, and oxidative stress. Recent literature clustering and keyword analysis identified that resveratrol, granulosa cells, follicular fluid, gut microbiota, and probiotics are current research hotspots in this field. Gut microbiota and infertility are recognized as significant directions for future research.ConclusionsThis bibliometric analysis provides a detailed overview of research on inflammation and PCOS, highlighting its importance in disease progression and the potential for therapeutic targeting of inflammatory pathways.

Global research trends in the COVID-19 and digestive disease: A review of visualization and bibliometric study.

The rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has attracted worldwide attention. There were also reported gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with COVID-19. This work aims to analyze the global research trends in COVID-19 and digestive disease. The related papers on COVID-19 and digestive disease were identified with Pubmed and web of science core collection on September 3, 2021. Bibliometric visualization was conducted through VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The analytic research was based on original articles and reviews. There were 997 articles found, with citations ranging from 0 to 878. These articles were distributed among 86 countries and 355 journals. The USA mainly contributed (288 articles), where 3 of the top 10 institutions were located. Followed by China (215 articles) and Italy (160 articles). The highest level of scientific collaboration has been formed between the USA to China. The World Journal of Gastroenterology (39 papers) published the most significant number of articles. Concerning the research topic, the colon/small bowel had the largest number of articles, followed by the liver and pancreaticobiliary. "Liver injury," "inflammatory bowel disease," "management," and "endoscopy" were the hotspot keywords. The largest cluster of liver transplantation had offered hints regarding research frontiers. The analytic results showed that the liver, especially liver transplantation, and inflammatory bowel disease were the 2 most influential research topics in COVID-19 and digestive disease.

A global bibliometric analysis on Kawasaki disease research over the last 5 years (2017-2021).

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology that mainly affects children. We aim to conduct a bibliometric analysis to explore the latest research hotspots and trends of KD. By using the keywords "Kawasaki disease," "Kawasaki syndrome", and "Mucocutaneous Lymph Node Syndrome," the Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus databases were searched for publications related to KD from 2017 to 2021. Author, country and journal submissions were classified and evaluated using Biblioshiny software (using R language). VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) was used to visualize the relevant network relationships. According to the search strategy, 5,848 and 6,804 KD studies were published in WOS and Scopus, respectively. The results showed an overall increasing trend in the number of publications and citations during the study period. The three most influential institutions in the WOS were St. Marianna University, Kawasaki Medical School and The University of Tokyo in Japan, while in Scopus, Harvard Medical School, University of California and Tehran University of Medical Sciences were the most influential institutions. The most influential authors of the two databases are Goodman SG, Kazunori Kataoka, and Takeshi Kimura of the WOS and Marx Nikolau and Wang Y, Burns JC, and Newburger JW of the Scopus, respectively. And Scientific Reports and Frontiers in Pediatrics were the most critical journals. The most cited documents were the WOS document by McCrindle et al. and the Scopus document by Benjamin et al. published in 2017, while the keywords in the last few years were focused on "COVID-19," "multisystem inflammatory syndrome," and "pandemic." This bibliometric analysis summarizes for the first time the research progress in KD (2017-2021), providing a qualitative and quantitative assessment of KD research bibliometric information. In the field, researchers mainly from Japan and USA are dominant, followed by China. It is recommended to pay close attention to the latest hot spots, such as "COVID-19" and "multisystem inflammatory syndrome." These results provide a more intuitive and convenient way for researchers to obtain the latest information on KD.

Emerging trends and hotspots in the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021: A bibliometric analysis

BackgroundThe prevalence of metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) presented a booming growth over recent years in the whole world. MAFLD was associated with a higher risk of end-stage liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. Accumulating evidence indicated that gut microbiota and MAFLD were interrelated and interacted with each other. However, to the knowledge of the authors, no bibliometric quantitative analysis has been carried out to evaluate the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD. This study aimed to use bibliometric analysis to evaluate current publication trends and hotspots in the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD, in order to advance research in this field.MethodsThe articles regarding the links between gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021 were identified from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace software, Vosviewer, the R package “bibliometrix” and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology were used to analyze current publication trends and hotspots in this field.ResultsA total of 707 articles were retrieved regarding the links between gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021. The USA occupied the leading role until 2015 and the dominance of China started in 2016. The USA was the most frequently involved country in international cooperation. Shanghai Jiao Tong University was the most productive institution. Ina Bergheim was the most productive author, publishing 14 articles. The co-citation keywords cluster label displayed ten main clusters: probiotics, bile acid, immune function, adolescents, nutritional genomics, high fat diet, systems biology, lipopolysaccharides, phosphatidylcholine, and oxidative stress. Keyword bursts analysis indicated that diet induced obesity, metabolic syndrome, ppar alpha, and lactobacillus were the research hotspots with high strength.ConclusionThe number of publications covering the links of gut microbiota and MAFLD increased dramatically in the past decade and especially became exponential growth in the last 3 years. Probiotics and bile acid will be the research direction of great importance in the etiology and novel treatment for MAFLD. This study provided systematic information and instructive assistance for future research work, that helped to discover the mechanisms and new treatments of MAFLD.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of intestinal flora and immunity.

The gut microbiota and its stability have important relationships with immunity. However, bibliometric analysis in this field is underdeveloped. This study aims to visualize publications related to the gut microbiota and immunity to identify research frontiers and hotspots, providing references and guidance for further research. Gut microbiota and immunity data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and Microsoft Excel, Scimago Graphica and VOSviewer software were used to analyze publication output trends, the most productive countries/regions, journals, authors, co-cited references, and keywords. This study analyzed 16,611 publications, including 10,865 articles and 5746 reviews, and found a continuous increase in publications related to gut microbiota and immunity since 2013. We identified 62,872 authors contributing to this field from 2144 journals and 9965 organizations/institutions in 145 countries/regions. The top publisher with the highest output is University of California System with 525 papers. Among these journals, the top 3 most prolific journals are Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Microbiology, and PLOS ONE. The literature with the highest citation frequency is published in Science and has been cited 3006 times by Patrick M. Smith and others.Gut microbiota research hotspots include gut microbiota inflammation, immune response, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), and microbiota tumors. The gut microbiota and its microbial homeostasis play critical roles in immune reactions, inflammation, and even tumors and IBDs.Current research on gut microbiota and immunity is a popular field. Previous studies have shown that the gut microbiota and its microbial species have important effects on maintaining human health, immune function, inflammation, tumorigenesis, and IBDs. Understanding the roles of microbial communities and specific bacterial species as well as their interactions with humans has led to numerous discoveries that provide unique opportunities for exploring human health and future research. This study used bibliometric and visualization analysis to identify the development trends and hotspots of publications related to the gut microbiota and immunity. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the emerging trends and future directions in this field.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of quercetin in kidney disease from 2000 to 2022

Background:Due to the complexity and challenges in the treatment of kidney diseases, it is particularly important to explore new therapeutic approaches, such as natural plant components, to enhance efficacy and reduce toxic side effects. In recent years, quercetin has received widespread attention from researchers in the field of kidney diseases, and a series of clinical and animal experiments have been conducted, resulting in a large number of academic papers and publications. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis to understand the current research status, research hotspots, and development trends of quercetin in kidney diseases, aiming to provide potential research directions for further studies on the treatment of kidney diseases.Methods:Publications were retrieved related to quercetin and the kidney from the Science Citation Index Expanded database within the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis was performed, including annual publication analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, collaboration network analysis, and citation analysis, using software such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Bibliometrix package based on R software, and Microsoft Excel. The results of the bibliometric analysis were visualized.Results:This study included a total of 1253 literature items related to quercetin and kidney diseases between the years 2000 and 2022. The annual publication output showed an overall exponential growth trend. The most frequent keywords were “quercetin” followed by “oxidative stress.” J Ethnopharmacol was the journal with the highest publication output in this field. Yin Xiaoxing was the most prolific author, and King Saud University was the institution with the highest publication count. As for countries, China had the highest publication count.Conclusion:Through bibliometrics analysis, it has been found that quercetin has received increasing attention from researchers in the field of kidney diseases. The oxidative stress and antioxidant properties of quercetin are the main areas of focus. Diabetic nephropathy is the primary disease being studied. Network pharmacology is an emerging research method, with a particular emphasis on studying the relevant signaling pathways.

Research status and hotspots in the field of endoplasmic reticulum stress and liver disease: A bibliometric study.

Recently, the study of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and liver disease has attracted much attention, but bibliometric analysis on this field is scarce. Therefore, to address this gap, we conducted a bibliometric analysis to explore the research status, hotspots, and trends in this field. We searched the Web of Science Core Collection database for publications on ERS and liver disease from 2007 to 2022. Bibliometric online analysis platform, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace were used to perform bibliometric analysis. Two thousand seven hundred fifty-one publications were retrieved form the Web of Science Core Collection database. The USA was the most productive and influential country. Seoul National University, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, and Kaufman RJ were the most productive institution, journal, and author. "Endoplasmic reticulum stress," "nonalcoholic fatty liver disease," "inflammation," "oxidative stress" and "insulin resistance" were the high-frequency keywords, "necrosis factor alpha" was the keywords with the strongest citation bursts, and "nonalcoholic fatty liver," "fibrosis" and "lipid droplet" were the keywords that were still bursting in 2022. The number of publications on ERS and liver disease has increased over the past years. The USA was the most productive and influential country. China has become the country with the largest number of annual publications, but it still needs to work on the quality. ERS and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, especially the insulin resistance and lipotoxicity in hepatocytes may be the research hotspots and trends in this field of ERS and liver disease.

Emerging trends and focus on the link between gut microbiota and type 1 diabetes: A bibliometric and visualization analysis.

To conduct the first thorough bibliometric analysis to evaluate and quantify global research regarding to the gut microbiota and type 1 diabetes (T1D). A literature search for research studies on gut microbiota and T1D was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database on 24 September 2022. VOSviewer software and the packages Bibliometrix R and ggplot used in RStudio were applied to perform the bibliometric and visualization analysis. A total of 639 publications was extracted using the terms "gut microbiota" and "type 1 diabetes" (and their synonyms in MeSH). Ultimately, 324 articles were included in the bibliometric analysis. The United States and European countries are the main contributors to this field, and the top 10 most influential institutions are all based in the United States, Finland and Denmark. The three most influential researchers in this field are Li Wen, Jorma Ilonen and Mikael Knip. Historical direct citation analysis showed the evolution of the most cited papers in the field of T1D and gut microbiota. Clustering analysis defined seven clusters, covering the current main topics in both basic and clinical research on T1D and gut microbiota. The most commonly found high-frequency keywords in the period from 2018 to 2021 were "metagenomics," "neutrophils" and "machine learning." The application of multi-omics and machine learning approaches will be a necessary future step for better understanding gut microbiota in T1D. Finally, the future outlook for customized therapy toward reshaping gut microbiota of T1D patients remains promising.

Nursing Research in Iran: Bibliometric and Visualization Analysis

Background. A comprehensive understanding of Iran's nursing system, its future trajectory, and the identification and comparison of scientific outputs in nursing research at the national level are of great significance. Therefore, this study was conducted to bibliometrically analyze Iranian articles in nursing using the Web of Science database. Methods. This study employed bibliometric analysis techniques. The research population consists of scientific outputs by Iranian researchers in nursing, indexed in the Web of Science citation database. Data were collected on October 8, 2023, from the Web of Science Core Collection, and relevant publications were screened from 1972 (the beginning of recorded data) to October 8, 2023 (the date of data collection). In the following, Excel and Biblioshiny software were used for bibliometric analysis, and VOS Viewer software was used to draw scientific maps. Results. A total of 3,527 documents were retrieved. The results indicated an upward trend in publication growth, with the earliest record dating back to 1972. The highest number of publications was recorded in 2021, with 515 documents. Original research articles constituted the majority of publications, while single-author documents were limited. Overall, 20.44% of the articles involved international collaboration. Fazlollah Ahmadi and Isa Mohammadi were identified as the most prolific authors in nursing research, while Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, and Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were recognized as the top three institutions in nursing-related scientific output. In terms of international collaboration networks in nursing research, the highest level of cooperation was observed between Iran and the United States, followed by Iran and Australia. Keyword analysis revealed that "care," "health," and "nurses" were the most frequently used terms among researchers. Additionally, co-occurrence network analysis showed the highest co-occurrence between the keywords "Iran" and "nursing," with 147 occurrences. Conclusion. The continuous growth of nursing research in Iran highlights its significant role in regional and global healthcare knowledge. This bibliometric study identified key trends, including the rise in international collaborations, the impact of prolific contributors, and a diverse research focus. Strengthening institutional support and expanding global partnerships are essential to sustain and enhance this trajectory. Such efforts will reinforce evidence-based practices and improve the quality of nursing education and healthcare delivery in Iran.

A bibliometric and visual analysis of obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome from 2012 to 2022.

Obesity is associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We aimed to elucidate the research status and explore research trends and future directions of research on obesity and PCOS. A bibliometric analysis of the published papers in the field of obesity and PCOS between 2012 and 2022 was conducted on the basis of the Web of Science Core Collection database. The collaboration networks, research trends, literature sources, citation analysis, co-citation analysis, and keywords analysis were statistically analyzed and visualized using the VOSviewer software. We retrieved 2843 records from 681 journals by 12307 authors from 2942 institutes in 99 countries. The number of published papers and citations had a roughly increasing trend annually. The United States and China contributed the majority of the records. Monash University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Karolinska Institute, University of SĂŁo Paulo, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences were the biggest nodes in their cluster of the collaboration network map, and Moran LJ, Teede HJ, Joham AE, Escobar-Morreale HF, and Macut D were prolific authors. Research trends and hotspots were identified and visualized in the field of obesity and PCOS. Research hotspots in this field focused on insulin resistance (IR), metabolic syndrome, metformin, and inflammation. Bariatric surgery, mitochondrial dysfunction, binding globulins, and comorbidities may be the frontiers of future research. We concluded the research status and trends in the field of obesity and PCOS. A better understanding of collaboration patterns, research hotspots, and frontiers may be useful for researchers.

Research trends on nanomaterials in gastric cancer: a bibliometric analysis from 2004 to 2023

BackgroundGastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. In recent years, an increasing number of studies aimed at designing and developing nanomaterials for use in diagnosing and treating gastric cancer have been conducted. In this study, we aimed to comprehensively assess the current status and trends of the research on the application of nanomaterials in gastric cancer through a bibliometric analysis.MethodsStudies focusing on nanomaterials and gastric cancer were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database and relevant articles were selected for inclusion in the study according to the inclusion criteria. Bibliometric and visual analysis of the included publications was performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace.ResultsA total of 793 studies were included. An increase in annual publications was observed from 2004 to 2023. China, Iran and the USA were the dominant countries in this field, accounting for 66.1%, 11.5% and 7.2% of publications, respectively. Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Cui DX were the most influential institution and author, respectively. The International Journal of Nanomedicine was the most prolific journal; Biomaterials was the most cited and most cocited journal. Nanomaterial-related drug delivery and anticancer mechanisms were found to be the most widely researched aspects, and green synthesis and anticancer mechanisms are recent research hotspots.ConclusionIn this study, we summarized the characteristics of publications and identified the most influential countries, institutions, authors, journals, hot topics and trends regarding the application of nanomaterials in gastric cancer.Graphical

Bibliometric Analysis of Global Trends in Research on Seasonal Variations in Gut Microbiota from 2012 to 2022.

Seasons are the important influencing factor for gut microbiota, which in turn affects the ecology and evolution of the host. The seasonal variation in gut microbiota has increasingly attracted the attention of researchers and professionals worldwide. However, studies of seasonal variations in gut microbiota have not been systematically analyzed by bibliometrics or visual analysis. This study is based on 271 publications from 2012 to 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection database (WOSCC) to analyze hot spots and trends in this field. The collaborations between different countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords were bibliometrically analyzed using Excel, CiteSpace (Version 6.2. R4), and VOSviewer (version 1.6.19) software. The number of publications has been increasing rapidly and shows a general upward trend. China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences are the country and institution contributing the most, respectively. The research hotspots and trends mainly include the diversity of gut microbiota communities in different seasons, the relationship between diet and gut microbiota in seasonal changes, and the relationship between gut microbiota and evolutionary adaptation in seasonal changes. This is the first bibliometric and visualization analysis of seasonal variations in gut microbiota, which may advance this field and lay the foundation for future research.

Global research trends between gut microbiota and lung cancer from 2011 to 2022: A bibliometric and visualization analysis.

An increasing number of studies have found that the gut microbiota was related to the occurrence and development of lung cancer. Nonetheless, publication trends and research hotspots in this field remain unknown. The study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis to systematically identify publication trends and research hotspots in the field of gut microbiota and lung cancer research within a 12-year panorama. Publications related to the gut microbiota and lung cancer between 1 January 2011 and 25 October 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. The online analytic tool of the WoSCC was used to analyze various bibliometric parameters. The bibliometrics website, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer were used to identify research trends and hotspots. A total of 375 publications related to the gut microbiota and lung cancer were extracted from WoSCC and identified for analysis. The number of annual publications has grown rapidly since 2018 and reached a peak in 2022. China was the most prolific country in this field, with 120 publications, followed by the United States (114), with the highest H-index of 31. Additionally, France ranked the highest with an average of 133 citations, while the leading institution and journal were the Unicancer and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, respectively. Interestingly, Routy Bertrand was the most prolific author and also the most cited author in terms of H-index and citations. Reference and keyword burst detection indicated that the research hotspots mainly included 1) the gut microbiota directly affects the efficacy of immunotherapy for lung cancer, 2) the application of different gut bacteria on lung cancer, and 3) the mechanism of the gut microbiota on lung cancer. The findings of this study revealed the general publication trends and evolving research hotspots in the field of gut microbiota and lung cancer at a global level. The research hotspots focused on the clinical application of the gut microbiota combined with immunotherapy in lung cancer and its mechanism. The findings of this study provide new perspectives on the field, which may shed light on a beneficial impact on further etiological studies, diagnosis, and treatment for lung cancer.

Research hotspots and future trends in lipid metabolism in chronic kidney disease: a bibliometric and visualization analysis from 2004 to 2023.

Disorders of lipid metabolism play a key role in the initiation and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Recently, research on lipid metabolism in CKD has rapidly increased worldwide. However, comprehensive bibliometric analyses in this field are lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate publications in the field of lipid metabolism in CKD over the past 20years based on bibliometric analysis methods to understand the important achievements, popular research topics, and emerging thematic trends. Literature on lipid metabolism in CKD, published between 2004 and 2023, was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The VOSviewer (v.1.6.19), CiteSpace (v.6.3 R1), R language (v.4.3.2), and Bibliometrix (v.4.1.4) packages (https://www.bibliometrix.org) were used for the bibliometric analysis and visualization. Annual output, author, country, institution, journal, cited literature, co-cited literature, and keywords were also included. The citation frequency and H-index were used to evaluate quality and influence. In total, 1,285 publications in the field of lipid metabolism in CKD were identified in this study. A total of 7,615 authors from 1,885 institutions in 69 countries and regions published articles in 466 journals. Among them, China was the most productive (368 articles), and the United States had the most citations (17,880 times) and the highest H-index (75). Vaziri Nosratola D, Levi Moshe, Fornoni Alessia, Zhao Yingyong, and Merscher Sandra emerged as core authors. Levi Moshe (2,247 times) and Vaziri Nosratola D (1,969 times) were also authors of the top two most cited publications. The International Journal of Molecular Sciences and Kidney International are the most published and cited journals in this field, respectively. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) have attracted significant attention in the field of lipid metabolism. Oxidative stress, inflammation, insulin resistance, autophagy, and cell death are the key research topics in this field. Through bibliometric analysis, the current status and global trends in lipid metabolism in CKD were demonstrated. CVD and DKD are closely associated with the lipid metabolism of patients with CKD. Future studies should focus on effective CKD treatments using lipid-lowering targets.

Research status, hotspots and perspectives of artificial intelligence applied to pain management: a bibliometric and visual analysis.

With the advent of big data, artificial intelligence (AI)is rapidly emerging as a promising avenue for pain management research. Integrating big data analytics, machine learning, and intelligent algorithms within AI can facilitate several significant advancements in healthcare. These include the ability to provide clinical diagnoses of pain, risk prediction, and the development of precision medicine. The number of articles on the application of AI to pain management is on the rise. However, there needs to be more information regarding the quality of the research output in this area, as well as the current hotspots and trends in research. At the same time, no bibliometric metrics have been identified that assess scientific progress in this area. In order to gain an understanding of the current status and potential future directions in the application of AI within the field of pain management, it is first necessary to undertake a visual and analytical study of the relevant research. A bibliometric and visual analysis was conducted to identify research hotspots and trends in the application of AI in pain management over the past 30years. The data information source was the SCI-EXPANDED subset database of the WOS database. A manual search was conducted of all articles and reviews from the database's inception to June 29, 2024. The search was limited to English language sources. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix (an R-Tool of R-Studio). The analysis encompassed a range of aspects related to the global publication status of papers in the field, including countries and regions, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, and co-cited references. A total of 970 published papers were obtained for this study. The articles were published in 496 journals by 5679 authors affiliated with 2030 academic institutions in 84 countries or regions. From 2014 to 2024, there was a gradual increase in the number of papers published within this field, with 97% of the total published papers. The United States and China contribute the most to this growth. The most prominent research institutions are Harvard University, the University of California system, and Harvard Medical School. At the author level, Mork, Paul Jarle, Bach, and Kerstin of the Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU) were identified as the authors with the highest research output. Breiman, L. of the University of California, Berkeley, emerged as the most influential author, exhibiting the highest co-citation frequency. From the perspective of journals, the Journal of Medical Internet Research, Scientific Reports, PAIN, PLOS ONE, and SPINE are the primary core journals in the field. They have a high number of published papers and co-citation frequency. Furthermore, of the 46,170 co-cited references, Loetsch J's "Machine learning in pain research," published in PAIN in 2018, had the highest number of co-citations, thus making it the most influential article in the study. Combining keywords and co-cited references for analysis leads to the conclusion that using AI for accurate clinical monitoring and risk prediction, clinical diagnosis and classification, and providing personalized treatment plans and care measures for pain has become a current research hotspot and a future trend. Machine learning, deep learning, artificial neural networks, and clinical decision support systems in artificial intelligence are frequently mentioned and commonly used to build predictive models. These are also hot research topics and trends in the field. The field of research on using AI for pain management is experiencing unprecedented growth and development. This study offers a novel perspective on applying AI to pain management, which may inform researchers' selection of potential journals and institutions to collaborate with. Furthermore, this study furnishes researchers with the requisite data to comprehend the present state of research, research focal points, and research tendencies in this field, thereby facilitating the implementation of AI in pain management.
