Abstract

Looking across national borders, firms are not free to do as they wish. Particularly in human resource management they are constrained by national institutions: different constraints in different countries. The evidence presented challenges our understanding of the meaning of the words HRM, challenges our understanding of MNCs ability to impose global policies and questions managerial scope.
