Abstract
Maybe you’re a student about to earn your degree in biomedical engineering. Perhaps you’re a new professional, working for an independent service provider when you’d rather be working at a hospital. Or you could be looking to make a mid-career change into the medical technology fi eld. Regardless of the path that brought you here, fi nding your fi rst position can be a challenge. We work in a complicated fi eld. On top of ever-changing medical technology, a high-stress environment, and life-and-death demands, there are some internal challenges. We can’t even agree what to call ourselves, we are not consistent in what services we provide, and we want experienced biomeds but in a lot of cases we will not (or cannot) train an entry-level employee. Before you give up hope, though, read on. I hope to provide a few pointers that may help in your search.
