Abstract

The chairs of health and social science departments in Oregon's 31 institutions of higher education were surveyed to (a) assess the amount of geriatric and gerontological activity, and (b) to identify faculty training needs in health care and social science disciplines. Each department reported on aging-related activity in five programmatic areas. Respondents also ranked a list of seven faculty development needs. Findings show that patterns of program implementation and needs for faculty development are different when comparing community colleges with colleges and universities. It is clear, however, that much work remains to be done to foster gerontological and geriatric education in both settings.
