Abstract

Basic problems that Moscow builders, scientists, and designers have encountered in exploiting the underground space of the capital are disclosed. The following are classed among these problems: computational and analytical developments that make it possible to design enclosing pit structures optimally with consideration of the effect of the procedural sequence of work production; to make reliable predictions of the settlements of buildings and structures falling within the zone of influence of underground construction with allowance for variations in the hydrogeological regime; development of protective measures for the existing urban setting; implementation of a complex monitoring system utilizing modern methods of deformation measurement for buildings and soil masses during construction of unique entities with an underground section; and, development of a series of regulatory documents for underground construction.
