Abstract

This book uses pictorial illustrations to describe the need for people to maintain adequate levels of personal hygiene. It specifically addresses the needs of adult men. I was particularly pleased with the commentary at the back of the book which goes into more detail about the importance of personal care and the threat that poor hygiene can pose to developing friendships. Like the previous book it has no words and can be interpreted by the reader who is then able to personalise the story. The negative experiences that happen to George early in the book are contrasted by his positive experiences when he changes his personal care habits. It reminds the reader that appearances count when forming impressions. This book, and the others in the series, would make a useful addition to a library for nurses to use in their pursuit of helping people with learning disabilities to learn and to teach them how to learn.
