Abstract

We describe a technique of automated chromatographic analysis of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), based on continuous monitoring of conductivity and enzyme activity in the effluent from a DEAE Sephadex column. As little as 1 milliunit of either crude or purified G6PD can be analyzed in three hours. The procedure may be useful for rapid characterization of genetic variants of G6PD by a technique which has been previously shown to have a high resolving power (±1% in terms of the KCl concentration used for elution of the column).
