Abstract

AbstractThe rapid advances in bio‐technology that have been witnessed in recent years have been matched by an increase in concern associated with both the moral dimensions and the possible environmental impacts of genetically modified organisms. Recognising both the potential threats and benefits, the EC has responded through the adoption of two directives controlling the use and release of GMOs. David Barling discusses the development of EC regulations and charts their application in the UK, finding that the common problem of equal enforcement may limit the potential of the EC in this field.
