Abstract
The generation of passively Q-switched and modelocked pulses has been observed from an Nd:YVO4 laser with a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. Modelocked pulses with a repetition rate of 400 MHz contained in a ~100 ns Q-switched pulse were found to have a pulsewidth of < 600 ps.
