Abstract

Traveling-wave modulation (TWM) is a simple form of space-time modulation which can enable electromagnetic effects such as non-reciprocity, frequency-conversion and amplification. TWM is often realized by applying a staggered modulation to a spatially-discrete array of unit cells known as stixels (space-time pixels). Currently available techniques for analyzing spatially-discrete traveling-wave modulation (SDTWM) require an entire spatial modulation period to be simulated simultaneously. Here, a generalized eigenvalue problem for SDTWM is derived which is independent of the number of stixels within the structure.
