Abstract

In this letter, a generalized circuit representation for a synchronous machine is presented. This circuit represents voltage and current relationship and can be used for dynamic and harmonic analysis. A distinct feature of the circuit is the use of Laplace transform variable <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$s$</tex-math></inline-formula> , which simplifies both calculus and frame conversion. Two derivation approaches are presented. The first approach starts from a steady-state circuit representation, while the second approach starts from the dq-frame dynamic model of a synchronous generator. Both arrive at the same representation.
