Abstract

Background and Purpose: Serum uric acid (SUA) is related with the severity and prognosis of the systolic heart failure. We assessed the association between SUA and diastolic dysfunction. Methods and Results: Total of 744 patients (202 women, 542 men) with LVEF of O50% and sinus rhythm were enrolled. Presence or absence of cardiac diastolic function was assessed by E/e0 , E/A, DcT, BNP, and cardiac hypertrophy. Positive relationship between SUA and diastolic dysfunction prevalence was apparent in women, but not in men (Figure). Logistic regression analysis showed that the third and fourth SUA quartile was associated with diastolic dysfunction with an odds ratio of 3.22 and 8.16, respectively, compared with the lowest SUA quartile. Conclusions: Higher SUA was independently associated with cardiac diastolic dysfunction in women, but not in men.
