Abstract
Gender ideology is defined as an individual's level of support for a division of paid work and family responsibilities that is based on the notion of separate spheres. This entry describes the social and demographic influences on gender ideology construction and the influences of gender ideology on family‐ and work‐related decisions and behaviors in the United States.
