Abstract

This paper applies findings from recent biological research to the historical debate between nurture and nature in the construction of gender differences. Four emerging trends in the biological literature are identified and examined in relation to their implications for how gender is conceptualized and addressed in the practice of marital and family therapy. A multilevel feedback framework for understanding gender differences is proposed and applied to the issue of women's depression. Implications for practice are identified.
