This study explores the English language proficiency of tourism players in the Gayo Highlands and suggests strategic training paths under the English for Tourism (EfT) model. The design that was used was a quantitative, cross-sectional design using a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure the four core skills, which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The results indicated that there was a high difference between the receptive and productive skills, with listening and reading being much better compared to speaking and writing. The Pearson correlation analysis also revealed that listening and speaking skills (r = 0.95) were highly correlated, and it is worth discussing the pedagogical significance of the integrated input-output strategies. The findings highlight the importance of communication and culturally responsive training programs, which address the authentic language utilization that is necessitated in the ecotourism and heritage settings of Gayo. This is in accordance with previous studies that underscored the expectations of the society of the tourism actors not only to apply English functionally but also to project cultural identity by means of language. Practical suggestions are the use of mobile-assisted learning devices, participatory training creation, and stakeholder collaboration among local agencies and training institutions. The research has both theoretical contributions to the ESP/EfT scholars and practical usefulness to the policymakers and tourism developers who are concerned with sustainable language learning.

Tourism English belongs to the English for Specific Purpose (ESP) and it has its own stylistic features. This paper aims at analyzing the stylistic features of tourism English. Firstly, a large amount of authentic materials is collected from official tourism websites of Britain and the U.S., and then a corpus named Tourism English Corpus (TEC) is compiled. Freiburg-LOB Corpus of British English (FLOB) is used as the reference corpus to make comparisons. The study analyses the Tourism English in the Republic of Tatarstan analyzes and the range of tourist services offered by local travel agencies. As an extension of their assortment, they offer the project of the tourist and excursion route “Kazan literary and memoir”. The work used various methods of scientific research. Among them is the historical-systemic method, which allowed to reconstruct the Kazan history of the following period: from the 80-ies of the XIXth century to the 20-30-ies of the XXth century, the hermeneutical method, with which it became possible to study and understand the meaning of literary works and texts of memoir content. All these contribute to the distinctive features of tourism English. It is hoped that the research could enrich the study of tourism English and promote the translation and learning of tourism English.

Stakeholder collaboration in the development of accessible tourism: A framework for Inclusion
  • Dec 17, 2020
  • Julie Nyanjom + 2 more

Stakeholder collaboration is increasingly being lauded as important in the development of accessible tourism. The purpose of this study is to explore how stakeholders collaborate in the development of accessible tourism. Drawing on research conducted in Western Australia, the study utilises qualitative approaches in its exploration. The evidence from the study strongly indicates that there is minimal collaboration between stakeholders in the development of accessible tourism. The findings suggest that when there are multiple and diverse stakeholders at play, an organic, circulatory and developmental approach to stakeholder collaboration should be adopted to innovatively move towards inclusive tourism – an ideal that aspires to equal access and inclusion for all. To this end, four emergent interrelated themes are considered: control and coordination, communication, clarity of roles and responsibilities and collaboration and integration. From these themes, a framework that can be applied to encourage collaboration is proposed.

SHARIA MOTIVATION IN A SECULAR COUNTRY: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE IN KAZAKHSTAN
  • Jan 1, 2024
  • Eurasian Journal of Religious Studies
  • Rakhymzhan Rashimbetov + 1 more

In this article, the authors try to study the features of the Islamic motives of the youth of Kazakhstan. According to the current religious situation, the people of Kazakhstan, as a Muslims, strive to adhere to Islam, on the other hand, as a citizen of Kazakhstan, must adhere to secular laws. In turn, this reflects the theoretical dilemma between secular law and Sharia law. In this regard, the purpose of the study is to identify and compare the level of Islamic motivation in each direction. Through this, test the hypothesis of the study. The study hypothesizes that "Islamic motivation is high in daily consumption, worship, and moral life, but religious motives for applying sharia punishments and becoming a religious state are low and have a weak relationship". To achieve the objectives of the study, the authors applied a quantitative method and surveyed 1,175 respondents among first and second-year students of Eurasian National University in Astana. Pearson's r-value correlation and descriptive analysis were used for data analysis. In the study, the authors noted that Sharia creates a high motivation for a moral and ethical lifestyle and halal food. At the same time, the authors found a low level of influence of Sharia on the practice of worship (salah) and Sharia law. The results showed a higher level for Kazakhstan to become a Sharia-compliant country than "Sharia as a punishment law". This study can complement the scope of knowledge about Islam in Kazakhstan and Central Asia on topics such as stimulating factors and religiosity in a secular country in general, as well as relations between the state and religion.

Preserving Cultural Heritage in the Age of Tourism: Stakeholder Collaboration and Digital Solutions for Sustainable Development
  • Jan 19, 2026
  • Sustainable Development
  • Leiling Zhang

The study provides new knowledge regarding a conflict between protecting cultural heritage and the commercialization of tourism, with a focus on coordination mechanisms that may enable sustainable tourism. Rapid growth of tourism threatens the authenticity of heritage sites because of the commercialization of their narratives and their associated environments. The study was conducted in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, utilizing a mixed methodology of qualitative and quantitative research data from participants through an online survey with 513 respondents and interviews of 145 participants. Purposive sampling was used to select and investigate the stakeholders. The findings suggest that the commercialization of cultural heritage can be managed to allow for value without negating the authenticity of cultural heritage, which may contribute positively to visitors' experiences. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS software, and qualitative data by NVivo software. The research explored how stakeholder collaboration, digital technologies, and community engagement in heritage conservation could align with tourism development. These can help mitigate and make them less likely to occur and encourage cultural sustainability by enabling the commercialization of tourism and the conservation of heritage. This research also reflects how digital tools, partnerships, and local engagement can alleviate, compromise, and satisfy the tensions between cultural preservation and tourism development. The findings from this research conclude that stakeholder collaboration, community involvement, and technology can foster sustainable tourism behavior. As such, the recommendations from this research provide significance for policymakers and heritage managers concerned about protecting cultural resources whilst reaping the economic benefits of tourism.

THE FLEXIBILITY OF LOGISTICS SERVICE PROVIDERS AND ITS IMPACT ON CUSTOMER LOYALTY: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY
  • Jul 1, 2011
  • Journal of Supply Chain Management
  • Evi Hartmann + 1 more

The use of logistics outsourcing and the degree of competition in the logistics service industry have significantly increased over the past decade. In order to reach and maintain an important role in such a business environment, logistics service providers (LSPs) have to find ways to achieve competitive advantage. In this regard, the role of flexibility as a potential source of competitive advantage for an LSP is unclear, as empirical research on flexibility in an industrial services context and specifically in logistics outsourcing relationships is lacking. Therefore, using the resource-based view theory as the theoretical foundation, this study develops a conceptual model of flexibility as a capability of an LSP and its impact on customer loyalty, a central outcome for LSPs in a competitive business environment. Further, taking a relational as well as a knowledge perspective with respect to the antecedents of flexibility, the relational capability collaboration and the knowledge resources supply chain partner insight and communication are integrated into the model. Finally, the relationships of collaboration as a capability with knowledge resources as well as with customer loyalty are considered. This study analyzes 155 logistics outsourcing relationships using a survey method and partial least squares structural equation modeling to empirically assess the proposed relationships. The results reveal that LSP flexibility is a strong driver of all core dimensions of customer loyalty (i.e., retention, extension and referrals) and thus a source of competitive advantage for LSPs. Further, collaboration positively influences LSP flexibility and also the loyalty dimensions, supporting its significant role in a supply chain relationship. Finally, knowledge resources have a positive effect on LSP flexibility as well as on collaboration, indicating the importance of such resources in facilitating crucial capabilities.
