Abstract
1930-s marked the appearance on the screen a whole pleiad of actors who became known as the Hollywood stars. The question - what was the basis of such high position: a truly outstanding creative ability or a welldesigned advertising campaign, of the powerful American cinema, debatable. There is no doubt that the US film industry has systematically been working to create an entire category of actors whose names have become a kind of quality mark for one or another of the moves that helped the American cinema holds strong positions in the global film market. The question is how strongly the image of Hollywood stars mingled with the actor's personality, what kind of conditions could predetermine a successful film career after Hollywood time. Based on the facts of the biography and career of one of the most popular Hollywood stars, namely, Greta Garbo, we will try the creative path of the actress from the first bit parts to the hasty completion of film career. We will be interesting to compare the key, in our view, the work of Garbo, which were the milestones not only in her film career, but also her fate. The role of Elisabeth Dona in the film adaptation of the novel S. Lagerlof Gosta Berlings Saga Greta Rumfort in Joyless lane G.-W. Pabst, Queen Christina in the eponymous melodrama Rouben Mamoulian.
