Gapoktan Partnership as a Mediator of Social Capital and Motivation for Sustainable Ipomoea reptans Poir Farming
The cultivation of Ipomoea reptans Poir in Balongpanggang District, Gresik Regency, serves as an adaptive response to post-harvest drought in rice fields and reflects the potential for sustainable agriculture. This study aims to analyse the mediating role of the Farmers’ Group Association (Gapoktan) in the relationship between social capital and farmer motivation towards sustainable farming practices. A mixed-methods design was employed, involving quantitative data from 35 farmers using a census approach and qualitative data from 39 Focus Group Discussion (FGD) participants. The quantitative data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS), while the qualitative data were examined thematically. Results revealed that social capital had a significant positive effect on Gapoktan partnerships (O = 0.482, p < 0.001), and Gapoktan partnerships significantly influenced sustainable agriculture (O = 0.516, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis confirmed that Gapoktan strongly mediated the relationship between social capital and sustainable agriculture (O = 0.249, p = 0.001). However, farmer motivation had a positive but insignificant effect on both Gapoktan partnerships (p = 0.190) and sustainable agriculture through Gapoktan mediation (p = 0.279). The study concludes that sustainable I. reptans Poir farming is primarily driven by social capital channelled through Gapoktan partnerships, while motivation alone is insufficient without institutional reinforcement. Strengthening Gapoktan’s strategic role in collective marketing, capital access, and knowledge transfer is essential to transform existing social solidarity into a sustainable, inclusive agribusiness ecosystem.

Although the franchise business has shown rapid growth, the failure rate in this sector remains relatively high. This condition presents a distinct challenge for franchisors and franchisees in enhancing franchise performance to maintain competitiveness and business sustainability in an increasingly dynamic environment. However, existing studies on franchise performance have predominantly focused on the franchisor's perspective, while giving limited attention to the franchisee's role. This research aims to examine the roles of entrepreneurial orientation (EO), the relationship quality, and innovation in influencing franchisee performance. The research employed a quantitative survey method, collecting data from 70 franchisees in Indonesia's MSME-scale food and beverage (F&B) sector. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) approach. The results indicate that EO positively affects franchisee performance directly and indirectly through the mediating roles of relationship quality and innovation. While the quality of the franchisor–franchisee relationship significantly enhances performance, its influence on franchisee innovation creation is not statistically significant. In contrast, innovation is a key mediator that transforms EO into performance advantages by generating relevant innovations. This study contributes to the theoretical development of franchise and entrepreneurship by positioning EO as a key strategic driver of franchisee performance, directly and indirectly through relationship quality and franchisee innovation, while contextualizing its relevance in MSME-scale F&B franchises in emerging markets.

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Arabic Language 1 textbook for the Sharia Economics Study Program—designed based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and employing the Whole Language approach—on students’ motivation and learning outcomes in the Sharia Economics Study Program at Trunojoyo Madura University. The research was motivated by students' limited ability to comprehend Arabic texts on Islamic economics, stemming from the use of partial and contextually irrelevant instructional materials. The CEFR approach was chosen because it integrates language competence with academic and professional contexts, while the Whole Language approach emphasizes integrated, communicative learning of the four language skills. This research employed a quantitative explanatory method with Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) analysis involving 86 students who used the textbook. The analysis results indicate that implementing the textbook had a significant effect on learning motivation (β = 0.901; p 0.05) and learning outcomes (β = 0.453; p 0.05), and that learning motivation significantly affected learning outcomes (β = 0.506; p 0.05). The R² values of 0.875 for learning outcomes and 0.812 for learning motivation demonstrate a high explanatory power of the model. Therefore, the Arabic Language 1 textbook for the Sharia Economics Study Program, based on CEFR and applying the Whole Language approach, is proven effective in enhancing students’ motivation and their integrated istima’(listening), kalam (speaking), qira’ah (reading), and kitabah (writing) skills within the context of Sharia economics learning.
