Abstract

AbstractA broadband dual‐polarized magnetoelectric (ME) dipole is proposed with gain enhancement by impedance surface walls (ISWs). The proposed antenna has a dimension of 140 × 140 × 45 mm3 (0.4 × 0.4 × 0.12 λ3) and operates from 0.87 to 3.0 GHz (110%), which can be applied on the on board UWB communications. The ISWs are designed for the band from 2.6 to 3.0 GHz to counter the high‐mode radiated waves of the ME dipole while maintaining the size of the antenna. The proposed antenna is fabricated and measured, and there is a good agreement between the simulated results and the measured ones. Compared to the antenna without ISWs, the gains of the proposed design are enhanced at 4.5 dBi at 2.6 GHz and 3 dBi at 3.0 GHz.
