Abstract

In this paper, a Fuzzy Logic (FL) based coordinated controller is developed for low voltage ride through (LVRT) enhancement of PMSG based wind energy conversion system (WECS) during symmetrical and asymmetrical grid faults. This coordinated control consists of a pitch angle control, a flux weakening control and a reactive power control. Pitch angle control is adjusted according to the smoothing of wind power fluctuations or the LVRT enhancement. A flux weakening controller is used to reduce the DC link overvoltage. Besides, a reactive power controller is used to achieve continuous operation during grid disturbances. Effectiveness of the proposed coordinated controller is tested under different cases. Numerical simulation results illustrate that some improvements of LVRT and DC-link over voltage reduction are achieved with the proposed coordinated controller.
