Abstract

The canonical commutation relations of quantum mechanics introduce a cellular structure in phase space. A point is replaced by an elementary cell whose volume is some power of 2πħ. Noncommuting coordinates will introduce a similar cellular structure in ordinary space. This structure can be used as an ultraviolet cutoff. An example is given on a two-dimensional space.
