Abstract

Abstract In this study, we consider a bioprocess optimization problem for a multistage extractive fermentation with cell recycling to produce lactic acid. A generalized mathematical model is first introduced. The aim of the optimization problem is to simultaneously obtain the maximum productivity and conversion so that the optimization problem is formulated as a fuzzy multiobjective optimization problem. The fuzzy decision is introduced to convert the multiobjective fuzzy optimization problem into the fuzzy goal attainment problem. Hybrid differential evolution is applied to solve the fuzzy goal attainment problem to obtain a Pareto optimal solution.
