Abstract

Future electrochemical developments, such as energy harvesting, will be influenced by different energy supply scenarios. These scenarios are long term, midterm and short term. Long term would be mainly fluctuating regenerative electricity (wind and solar) with energy harvesting as a main primary energy supply. A midterm scenario with natural gas from fracking to be used (in trigeneration systems) with a growing energy harvesting for primary energy supply . In the short term energy harvesting involves mainly waste thermal energy. In all times energy storage would enable and enhance all scenarios.
