Abstract
Within a single grey seal colony, relatively stable both in numbers and in the breeding environment, there are no significant variations in the causes of death in different years. However, there is variation in the bacteria causing infectious conditions, most of which are opportunistic invaders, and in the types of bacteria present at various sites in the adult animals.
