Abstract
Basionym: Commelina cristata L., Sp. P1. 42 (1753). Although Don did not publish Cyanotis axillaris, he did make the combination Cyanotis cristata incidentally while contrasting that species with his newly described C. barbata D. Don. The combination C. cristata was also used by Sweet (Sweet's Hort. Brit. 430. 1827) prior to its publication by J. H. Schultes (Syst. Veg. 7(2): 1150. 1830) and Loudon (Hort. Brit. 125. 1830).
