Abstract

High purity, high homogeneity and ultra-fine grain size are the features of new generation steels. The solidification process control is much more efficient and economical to get high homogeneity than other methods such as hot deforming and high temperature diffusion annealing. This chapter focused on fundamental studies on the liquid structure of Fe-C alloy, heterogeneous nucleation and formation of fine equiaxed grain structure. It is expected that such knowledge can benefit the improvement of homogeneity of steels.
