The functional capabilities of children following treatment of brain tumors have been stated to be at or near normal in most cases. Twenty patients have undergone extensive neuropsychologic assessments: 15 following surgery and irradiation, 3 following surgery prior to irradiation, and 2 prior'to irradiation (no surgery). There are 14 male and 6 female ranging from 1 9/12 to 14 11/12 years old (median 5 a/i 2 years). Primary tumors include cerebellar astrocytomas (5), medulloblastomas (4), cerebral astrocytomas (4), thalamic gliomas (3), cerebellar mixed gliomas (2), and pineal tumors (2).
