Abstract

Abstract : There is a need for a single functional logistics data manager within the Army to eliminate the continued stovepipe management of logistics data. The lack of a single functional logistics data manager can lead to the potential failure of the emerging logistics information systems across the service; the incompatibility of developing systems with the emerging Department of Defense Logistics Architecture; and keeping combatant commanders from gaining required capabilities in the areas of materiel readiness asset visibility and intransit visibility with a reduced logistics footprint. This paper will define the role of a functional logistics data manager within the service; look at the emerging logistics architecture automated logistics systems in development to support this architecture and the players who could fill the role.
