From Management to Support: A Systematic Bibliometric Review of Cross-Cultural Human Resource Management

Cross-cultural human resource management has become essential for multinational companies. However, the research outputs of this and related fields are still developing. This study utilised CiteSpace to analyse 330 papers on cross-cultural HRM published from 2002 to 2024 in the Web of Science core collection using bibliometric and visualisation methods. Results show an increasing trend of studies in cross-cultural HRM, with American, European, and Asian countries taking the lead. Author, institution, and country co-authorship networks were generated to identify the top productive authors, institutions, and countries, respectively. The journal co-citation network illustrates the distribution of core journals. The document co-citation network reveals the key research. The keywords co-occurrence network explores the research trend and hotspots. References and suggestions for the development of cross-cultural HRM research are provided.

Network of institutions, source journals, and keywords on COVID-19 by Korean authors based on the Web of Science Core Collection in January 2021

Purpose: The aim of this study was to characterize the network of institutions, journals, and topics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) literature by Korean authors in the Web of Science Core Collection. The specific goals were to identify the collaborative relationships between Korean authors and international authors and to explore clusters of institutions, journals, and topics.Methods: Literature was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection on January 30, 2021. The search terms were “SARS-CoV-2” or “COVID” or “novel coronavirus” in the subject field. The search results were limited again to “South Korea” as the country and the publication type of “article.” The measurement tool was Biblioshiny, an app version tool for Bibliometrix.Results: Korean authors published 3.2 times more COVID-19–related articles in journals outside of Korea than in Korean journals. The journals showed three clusters by bibliographic coupling. In contrast, the co-citation network showed four clusters. Only a few journals were included in the clusters in both analyses. The conceptual structure of Keywords Plus by factorial analysis showed two clusters: “pathology and clinical treatment” and “knowledge and attitudes.” Institutions’ collaborative network consisted of four clusters. Korean researchers actively collaborated with international researchers, especially those in the United States.Conclusion: Because only a few Korean journals were included in the journal clusters by both coupling and co-citation network, more active citation of Korean journals is recommended. The identification of human behavior as a distinct theme in COVID-19 research suggests a different focus in this area besides clinical studies.

Global research trends of home pharmaceutical care: a bibliometric analysis via CiteSpace.

This study aimed to systematically review the research on home pharmaceutical care and to identify emerging trends and research hotspots using bibliometric methods. Publications related to home pharmaceutical care, published from inception to 6 February 2025, were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The bibliometric tool CiteSpace was employed to analyze various metrics, including the number of publications, contributing countries, institutions, authors, keywords, cited references, and research trends in the field of home pharmaceutical care. A total of 812 relevant articles were retrieved from the WoSCC. The most prolific contributors were Hughes CM, Nishtala, PS, and Lapane KL. The United States emerged as the leading country in the field, with Queen's University Belfast identified as the most productive institution. The keyword with the highest frequency was "pharmaceutical care." The research hotspots in this field were centered around "polypharmacy," "medication reconciliation," and "drug-related problems." This study utilized CiteSpace to analyze research trends and hotspots in the field of home pharmaceutical care. The findings suggest that "polypharmacy" and "care homes" are likely to become focal points of future research. Additionally, the development of research in developing countries lags behind that in developed countries. Therefore, it is crucial for developing countries to learn from the advances made by developed nations in this field, and to foster greater international collaboration and research efforts.

New Working Practices: A Scientometric Review

Study on New Working Practices (NWPs), which is the subject of this review paper, has created a large body of literature. Studies in this research area are progressing quickly, and it is important to stay abreast of new trends and essential factors in the growth of mutual awareness. This study evaluates the global scientific output of New Working Practices (NWPs) research and explores their hotspots and frontiers from 1980 to 2018 (pre-COVID-19), using bibliometric methods. 850 relevant articles were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and analysed. Scientometric method and Citespace VI were used to analyse the bibliometric data. Reference citation and cocitation networks were plotted, while keywords were used to analyse the research hotspots and trends. There is a significant increase in the number of annual publications with time. The United Kingdom (UK) ranked highest in the countries with most publications, and the leading author is Friedhelm Nachreiner based on publication counts. The most cited author/organisation is the UK Department of Health. Performance, work, and flexible working are the research hotspots, while flexible working arrangement represents the prominent research domain. The study offers valuable references for researchers, industry practitioners and policymakers.

Analyzing the research landscape: Mapping frontiers and hot spots in anti-cancer research using bibliometric analysis and research network pharmacology

Introduction: Network pharmacology has emerged as a forefront and hotspot in anti-cancer. Traditional anti-cancer drugs are limited by the paradigm of “one cancer, one target, one drug,” making it difficult to address the challenges of recurrence and drug resistance. However, the main advantage of network pharmacology lies in its approach from the perspective of molecular network relationships, employing a “one arrow, multiple targets” strategy, which provides a novel pathway for developing anti-cancer drugs. This study employed a bibliometric analysis method to examine network pharmacology’s application and research progress in cancer treatment from January 2008 to May 2023. This research will contribute to revealing its forefront and hotspots, offering new insights and methodologies for future investigations.Methods: We conducted a literature search on network pharmacology research in anti-cancer (NPART) from January 2008 to May 2023, utilizing scientific databases such as Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and PubMed to retrieve relevant research articles and reviews. Additionally, we employed visualization tools such as Citespace, SCImago Graphica, and VOSviewer to perform bibliometric analysis.Results: This study encompassed 3,018 articles, with 2,210 articles from WoSCC and 808 from PubMed. Firstly, an analysis of the annual national publication trends and citation counts indicated that China and the United States are the primary contributing countries in this field. Secondly, the recent keyword analysis revealed emerging research hotspots in “tumor microenvironment,” “anti-cancer drugs,” and “traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). “ Furthermore, the literature clustering analysis demonstrated that “calycosin,” “molecular mechanism,” “molecular docking,” and “anti-cancer agents” were widely recognized research hotspots and forefront areas in 2023, garnering significant attention and citations in this field. Ultimately, we analyzed the application of NPART and the challenges.Conclusion: This study represents the first comprehensive analysis paper based on bibliometric methods, aiming to investigate the forefront hotspots of network pharmacology in anti-cancer research. The findings of this study will facilitate researchers in swiftly comprehending the current research trends and forefront hotspots in the domain of network pharmacology in cancer research.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of transcranial direct current stimulation in the web of science database from 2000 to 2022 via CiteSpace.

This study aimed to evaluate the current research hotspots and development tendency of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in the field of neurobiology from a bibliometric perspective by providing visualized information to scientists and clinicians. Publications related to tDCS published between 2000 and 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) on May 5, 2022. Bibliometric features including the number of publications and citations, citation frequency, H-index, journal impact factors, and journal citation reports were summarized using Microsoft Office Excel. Co-authorship, citation, co-citation, and co-occurrence analyses among countries, institutions, authors, co-authors, journals, publications, references, and keywords were analyzed and visualized using CiteSpace (version 6.1.R3). A total of 4,756 publications on tDCS fulfilled the criteria we designed and then were extracted from the WOSCC. The United States (1,190 publications, 25.02%) and Harvard University (185 publications, 3.89%) were the leading contributors among all the countries and institutions, respectively. NITSCHE MA and FREGNI F, two key researchers, have made great achievements in tDCS. Brain Stimulation (306 publications) had the highest number of publications relevant to tDCS and the highest number of citations (4,042 times). In terms of potential hotspots, we observed through reference co-citation analysis timeline viewer related to tDCS that "depression"#0, "Sensorimotor network"#10, "working memory"#11, and "Transcranial magnetic stimulation"#9 might be the future research hotspots, while keywords with the strong burst and still ongoing were "intensity" (2018-2022), "impairment" (2020-2022), "efficacy" (2020-2022), and "guideline" (2020-2022). This was the first-ever study of peer-reviewed publications relative to tDCS using several scientometric and visual analytic methods to quantitatively and qualitatively reveal the current research status and trends in the field of tDCS. Through the bibliometric method, we gained an in-depth understanding of the current research status and development trend on tDCS. Our research and analysis results might provide some practical sources for academic scholars and clinicians.

Global Research Trends of Cryoablation for Atrial Fibrillation from 2002 to 2022: A Bibliometric Analysis.

Atrial fibrillation is a common arrhythmia. Cryoablation is a treatment for atrial fibrillation, which has achieved remarkable results. But there are still many problems worthy of improvement and discussion. We aim to evaluate the scientific outputs of global cryoablation of atrial fibrillation research, providing new ideas and directions for further research. The data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection on July 28, 2022. Bibliometrics tools-CiteSpace V, Microsoft Excel 2019, and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology-were used for bibliometric analysis of the published outputs. A total of 1676 research articles were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection published between 2002 and 2022, and the number of annual publications has gradually increased, with a slight decline in 2006-2008, 2011-2012, and 2021, reaching a peak in 2020. The institution with the highest number of research publications in this field was Asklepios Klin St. Georg, followed by Vrije Univ Brussel. The most productive researchers were Carlo De Asmundis, Gianbattista Chierchia, Pedro Brugada, Karlheinz Kuck, and Andreas Metzner. The most prolific journal has been the US publication Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, and Europace from England ranked second. The article 'Cryoballoon or Radiofrequency Ablation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation' ranked first among all cited articles. Burst detection analysis of top keywords suggested that follow-up, task force, trial, phrenic nerve injury, and radiofrequency ablation were research hotspots. This study provides a comprehensive overview of cryoablation in atrial fibrillation research using bibliometric and visual methods, which will help researchers better understand the development status and trends in this field.

Research focus and emerging trends of the gut microbiome and infant: a bibliometric analysis from 2004 to 2024.

Over the past two decades, gut microbiota has demonstrated unprecedented potential in human diseases and health. The gut microbiota in early life is crucial for later health outcomes. This study aims to reveal the knowledge collaboration network, research hotspots, and explore the emerging trends in the fields of infant and gut microbiome using bibliometric analysis. We searched the literature on infant and gut microbiome in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database from 2004 to 2024. CiteSpace V (version: 6.3.R1) and VOSview (version: 1.6.20) were used to display the top authors, journals, institutions, countries, authors, keywords, co-cited articles, and potential trends. A total of 9,899 documents were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The United States, China, and Italy were the three most productive countries with 3,163, 1,510, and 660 publications. The University of California System was the most prolific institution (524 publications). Van Sinderen, Douwe from University College Cork of Ireland was the most impactful author. Many studies have focused on atopic dermatitis (AD), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), as well as the immune mechanisms and microbial treatments for these diseases, such as probiotic strains mixtures and human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The mother-to-infant microbiome transmission, chain fatty acids, and butyrate maybe the emerging trends. This study provided an overview of the knowledge structure of infant and gut microbiome, as well as a reference for future research.

Past and present: a bibliometric study on the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is a gynecological malignancy with a high mortality rate worldwide. The unfavorable prognosis of OC is mainly attributed to the recurrent propensity. Recently, mortality from OC has exhibited a downward trend. These favorable patterns are likely to be driven by advancements in novel therapeutic regimens. However, there is a lack of visualize analysis of the application of these new drugs on women with recurrent OC (ROC). Therefore, we aimed to provide a bibliometric analysis of the evolving paradigms in the ROC treatment. Documents on ROC treatment were systematically collected from the MEDLINE database and Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). The retrieved documents were exported in the plain text file format, and files were named and saved to the paths specified by the Java application. Microsoft Excel (version 2010), Citespace (6.2.R4) and VOSviewer (1.6.19) were used for data analysis, and included the following: 1) annual publication trend; 2) contributions of countries, institutions and authors; 3) co-citation of journals and references; and 4) co-occurrence of keywords. A total of 914 documents published in the MEDLINE and 9,980 ones in WOSCC were retrieved. There has been an upward trend in the productivity of publications on ROC treatment on by years. The United States was the leading contributor in this field, and the University of Texas System stood out as the most productive institution. Giovanni Scambia and Maurie Markman were the research leaders in the field of ROC treatment. The journal Gynecologic Oncology had the highest citation frequency. The reference entitled with "Niraparib Maintenance Therapy in Platinum-Sensitive, Recurrent Ovarian Cancer" got highest centrality of 0.14 in the co-citation network. Keyword analysis revealed that the focus of current ROC treatment was on platinum-based anticancer drugs, paclitaxel, angiogenesis inhibitors (AIs), immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPis). Scholars from a multitude of countries have been instrumental in the advancement of ROC treatment. The research hotspots and trend in the field of predominantly originated from leading international journals and specialized periodicals focused on gynecologic oncology. Maintenance therapy using AIs or (and) PARPis has emerged as a significant complement to platinum-based chemotherapy for patients with ROC.

Wood decay fungi: an analysis of worldwide research

PurposeWood decay fungi are the only forms of life capable of degrading wood to its initial constituents, greatly contributing to the soil ecosystem. This study summarizes the current research status and development characteristics of global wood decay fungi research, in order to better understand their role in soils.MethodsA bibliometric analysis was applied to the literature from 1913 to 2020, based on data from the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection. For this, various bibliometric analysis methods, R (Biblioshiny package), and VOSviewer were applied.ResultsA total of 8089 documents in this field were identified in the WOS Core Collection. The annual number of publications tended to increase, with exponential growth after 2008. Researchers in this field were mainly concentrated in North Europe, the USA, and China. Biotechnology, applied microbiology, environmental sciences, and microbiology were the most popular WOS categories. Bioresource Technology and Applied Environmental Microbiology were the top two journals with the most citations. The top three authors with the most published papers were Dai YC, Martinez AT, and Cui BK. Co-occurrence analysis of author keywords identified six clusters, mainly divided into three categories: the classification and diversity, the degradation mechanisms, and the ecological functions of wood decay fungi. Clustering results further showed that the lignin degradation process and the application of wood decay fungi in industrial production and soil contamination remediation are current research hotspots.ConclusionsWe present a comprehensive and systematic overview of research related to wood decay fungi and provide a deep perspective to understand the associated research progress. This is important for facilitating the development of a profound understanding of the contribution of wood decay fungi to soil systems and the degradation of soil contaminants.

Mapping research trends of uveal melanoma: a bibliometric analysis

BackgroundTo explore the research trends for uveal melanoma with bibliometric methods using Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and PubMed (PM).MethodsTo find UM-related studies, “uveal melanoma” was used as search term in the WoSCC and PM for the period time from 2000 to 2020. Bibliographic coupling analysis was used to investigate the journals with the highest number of UM-related publications. VOSviewer (VV) was used for mapping the knowledge domain and visualizing the co-occurrence of terms, authors, organizations, countries, co-citation literature, and keywords. The knowledge map based on WoSCC and PM was compared.ResultsIn the WoSCC 3,748 articles were found, while in PM the search resulted in 3,403 articles. The number of original articles has steadily grown in general in the past two decades. The top ten authors were contributing to 23% (n = 856) of all publications, while the top 10 institutions published 41% (n = 1524) of all articles. The top 3 journals with the highest number of publications for UM-related research included Investigative ophthalmology & visual science, Ophthalmology, and British Journal of Ophthalmology. Co-occurrence analysis based on author keywords showed 6 clusters. The most frequent keywords included are metastasis, prognosis, and brachytherapy. The latest research hotspots focused on BAP1, immunotherapy and GNAQ.ConclusionsGenetics and immunology are the latest research frontiers in uveal melanoma. There is a clear need for interdisciplinary, molecular and clinical research approaches to improve the fatal prognosis of uveal melanoma patients.

Research trends of bone tumor treatment with 3D printing technology from 2013 to 2022: a bibliometric analysis

ObjectiveBibliometrics was employed in this study to determine the research trends in the worldwide application of 3D printing technology to treat bone tumors over the previous 10 years.MethodsPublished from 2013 to 2022, the papers related to bone tumors treated with 3D printing were located in Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), PubMed, and Scopus. The screened articles were included in this bibliometric study. From these papers in WoSCC, information on annual publications, journals, keywords, countries, authors, institutions, and cited references were extracted and visualized with CiteSpace (version 6.1.R6) software to investigate the state of bone tumor treatment using 3D printing as well as research hotspots. The Carrot2 online visualization tool and Vosviewer software (version 1.6.20) were employed to visualize the publications from PubMed and Scopus, respectively, in order to ascertain the most popular research topics from both databases.ResultsA total of 606, 233, and 364 publications were obtained from WoSCC, PubMed, and Scopus, respectively, between the years 2013 and 2022. In WoSCC, the peak number of publications was found in 2021, with 145 publications published. Acta Biomaterialia (11 publications) and World Neurosurgery (10 publications) were the most prolific journals, and Biomaterials was the journal cited the most (244 times). Yong Zhou was the most productive author with 14 publications, while Kwok-Chuen Wong (69 citations) and William F Enneking, (69 citations) possessed the most citations. The country with the largest quantity of publications was China (207). Among all institutions, Shanghai Jiao Tong University produced the most publications (29). Rapid prototyping was the keyword with the strongest citation burst (4.73). ‘Reconstruction’, ‘surgery’, ‘resection’, and ‘design’ caught the significant attention of researchers. 3D-printed materials, pelvic reconstruction, mandibular reconstruction, computer-assisted surgical techniques, photothermal therapy, and in vitro experiments were recognized as hot subjects and trends in current research. The most frequently occurring topics in Scopus are not significantly different from those found in WoSCC. The most prevalent research areas in PubMed encompass implant, patient-specific, bioceramic, models, and pelvic.

Bibliometric analysis of worldwide publications on multi-, extensively, and totally drug – resistant tuberculosis (2006–2015)

The emergence of drug resistance is a major challenge for worldwide TB control. The aim of this study was to give a bibliometric overview of publications on multi-, extensively, and totally drug-resistant TB.MethodsScopus database was used to retrieve articles on multidrug resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR), and totally drug-resistant (TDR) tuberculosis for the study period (2006–2015). The number of publications, top productive countries and institutions, citation analysis, co-authorships, international collaboration, active authors, and active journals were retrieved and analyzed.ResultsA total of 2260 journal articles were retrieved. The mean ± SD citations per article was 7.04 ± 16.0. The h-index of retrieved data was 76. The number of publications showed a three – fold increase over the study period compared with less than two – fold increase in tuberculosis research during the same study period. Stratified by number of publications, the United States of America ranked first while Switzerland ranked first in productivity per 100 million people, and South Africa ranked first in productivity stratified per one trillion Gross Domestic Product. Three of the High Burden Countries (HBC) MDR-TB (India, China, and South Africa) were present in top productive countries. High percentage of international collaboration was seen among most HBC MDR-TB. Except for Plos One journal, most active journals in publishing articles on MDR, XDR, TDR-TB were in infection – related fields and in general medicine. Top 20 cited articles were published in prestigious journal such as Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine. The themes in top 20 cited articles were diverse, ranging from molecular biology, diagnostic tools, co-infection with HIV, and results of new anti-TB drugs.ConclusionPublications on MDR, XDR and TDR – TB are increasing in the past decade. International collaboration was common. Many low resourced African and Asian countries will benefit from research leading to new diagnostic and screening technology of TB. The exchange of expertise, ideas and technology is of paramount importance in this field.

Conclusion: Publications on MDR, XDR and TDR – TB are increasing in the past decade. International collaboration was common. Many low resourced African and Asian countries will benefit from research leading to new diagnostic and screening technology of TB. The exchange of expertise, ideas and technology is of paramount importance in this field.

Global research landscape and emerging trends of non-coding RNAs in prostate cancer: a bibliometric analysis.

Prostate cancer (PC) is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men and continues to be a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. In recent years, non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as a significant focus in molecular biology research, playing a pivotal role in the development and progression of PC. This study employed bibliometric analysis to explore the global outputs, research hotspots, and future trends in ncRNA-related PC research over the past 20years. Publications on PC-related ncRNAs from 2004 to 2023 were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection. The co-operation network of countries, institutions, and authors on this topic was analyzed using CiteSpace (version 6.2. R6). In addition, co-occurrence analysis of keywords and co-citation analysis of references were performed using CiteSpace, and emergent detection was also performed. A total of 2,951 articles on PC-related ncRNAs were finally included in this study for analysis. China contributed the largest number of publications, while the United States was the most influential country in this field, with collaborative ties to 26 other countries. Fudan University was identified as the most active institution in this field. Rajvir Dahiya was the most prolific and influential author. Within the co-citation network, clusters labeled "EVs," "circRNA," and "ceRNA" represented current research directions. The cluster labeled "gene" dominated the co-occurrence keywords. "circRNA" showed the highest burst strength among keywords, with "circRNA," "EVs" and "exosome" maintaining sustained burst strength, suggesting these are the emerging research frontiers in this field. Investigating ncRNAs as pivotal research subjects in PC is essential for addressing the public health impact of the disease and advancing innovative diagnostic and targeted therapeutic strategies. This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research related to PC-associated ncRNAs, delivering a scientific perspective and identifying potential research directions for scholars in this field.
