Abstract

Calculations are made of the observed frequency redistribution function of radiation scattered from a thermal distribution of moving atoms when the scattering is completely non-coherent in the rest frame of the atom. The effect of this redistribution function on the source functions of two4evel atoms in a semi-infinite isothermal atmosphere is found to be considerable; however, the effect on the resulting line profiles is negligible.
