Abstract

As the opening angle of a simply-supported circular ring segment is increased the frequency curves associated with the symmetric and antisymmetric mode shapes cross each other. This paper establishes the initial cross-over angles for the fundamental and first harmonic as a function of a center line extension parameter. A comparison is made to Reissner's result for a shallow sinusoidal arch.
